| For over four decades the Chicago Society has held
its Deserving Children's Party, hoping to make Christmas a little
brighter for kids who might not otherwise fully enjoy the joy of the
season. On December 18, 2004, the party was presented in the
meeting hall and cafeteria of the Polish National Alliance, Chicago,
Illinois. The festivities started with hot dogs, potato chips,
cookies, soda and milk, followed quickly by the singing of koledy
[Polish Christmas Carols]. A surprise visit by Polish singing star
Irena Jarocka thrilled kids, parents and Chicago Society members
alike. Then the crowd was entertained by a show with wild animals,
including monkey, chinchilla, leopard, porcupine and a huge python.
Last, but by no means least, Swiety Mikolaj [Santa Claus] appeared
to call each child by name and present him or her with a present. A
five dollar bill for every child will also enable them to buy
something of their choice.
