MEETING OF AUGUST 2007

The site of the August, 2007, meeting was Sawa's Old Warsaw, the restaurant of our member Stuart Sawa, in Broadview, Illinois. A Polish-style smorgasbord was first enjoyed in the upstairs restaurant, after which the meeting took place in the downstairs hall.

The meeting lecture featured Maria Omelanczuk, who described the International Mathematical Competition "Math Kangaroo" in America. This is a venture of thousands of people across the world whose purpose is helping students love mathematics. Since 1991 "Math Kangaroo" has been taking place in Europe. In the USA the first participants were students of the Jan III Sobieski Polish School in Chicago in 1998.
